A Wall (Other Nature Remix) - Fan Video |
Enjoy ! Have a look on Karp's Videos Gallery here !
|
![]() "Dear Bat Lovers,
What a roller coaster of a day it's been today! Has it gone that way for you too? Not being in the UK, it's difficult to have a realistic perspective on what Natasha's chances were for the Brit award this year. Nevertheless my hopes were high, of course. I wonder what Natasha's expectations were. Does anyone know? Perhaps she was not as disappointed as dedicated fans were. She's been through this before, as have most of you. It was the first time for this new fan and distant onlooker so it was keenly felt. The photo posted above is yet another in Natasha's astonishing repertoire of expression but those perfectly pursed lips might be a clue to what she was anticipating - or not." By Mark

The Batlovers Community was intrigued and excited to learn that Natasha Khan’s bat-brother, Tariq Khan, (of the band Moones)
had recently collaborated with Terrafunka, as part of a production/remix duo called, Other Nature. Batlovers.com asked Tariq a few questions… Natasha Khan and Harry Treadaway, from the video A Wall - Behind the scenes Batlovers: Tariq, you are already part of a group called Moones, can you tell us how your project, Other Nature came about? Tariq Khan: I've always been interested in making my own beats ever since I got into Hip Hop at about age 14. I would always
look at the production credits and was inspired by artists such as Dr Dre, The Neptunes, Just Blaze, Timbaland. I eventually got myself to music college to study production and sound engineering (although I dropped out after a year as I was too distracted by girls!). Other Nature is me and Kevin Edge aka Terrafunka, who actually taught me how to play keys, and helped me further my production skills. we basically started creating bits and bobs and had a great creative connection. He's a technical genius, and combined with my ideas it works really well! We then decided to become a production duo...Other Nature was born! B: What was your inspiration and motivation for this remix? TK: Not sure about inspiration. Whatever floats my boat at that precise moment really. I Just go with whatever feels good. I had
the bass line in my head and we built from there really. Originally we had the fat bass in the first verse responding to her words, but decided to move it on its own for ultimate impact! As the original is more uptempo i wanted it to be more laid back and dark, hence the simple slow beats and darker sounds. For the ending it picks up and gets a bit more cheerful and emotional. Her vocals dictated what we went with basically and we built around that. B: Other Nature consists of two artists. Please, if you would, tell us a bit about Terrafunka. TK: He is a producer/engineer/keyboard player/guitarist/vocalist/DJ and can even make beans on toast! He's super talented.
In fact he is working on the upcoming Moones EP. Look out for this, it's coming soon... B: Did Natasha approach you about remixing her latest single, A Wall? Or did you approach your “Bad-Ass” sister about
remixing the song? TK: Well I was asked to be in the video for A Wall, and on the day of the shoot I just had her vocals going round and round in my head and that's where my idea for this bass line came. I then asked her if I could try remixing it, she gave me her blessings, bless her! Thankfully she loved what I did (she's probably lying), her label and manager loved it so much it ended up being the official remix. Bless them all. And bless u for the question! Bless. B: How much involvement did Natasha have in the process?
Were there guidelines or instructions given by Natasha? Or did Bat for Lashes give you (Other Nature) complete freedom to create this remix on your own? TK: No guidelines or anything of that nature, excuse the pun. Total freedom. She had no inkling on what it would sound like. It could have been a death metal remix and she wouldn't have had a clue. Can you imagine?!! That would have been fun! When she first heard the mix she was surprised as she was expecting a dancey club record. I think when you see the word remix you automatically assume it is going to be a more uptempo dance version. B: If you did not have complete creative freedom for this remix, would you have approached things any differently if you did? TK: Err... Ye I suppose. If she wanted it to be a club track for example we would have approached it differently of course.
Goes without saying really. B: Were there any technical issues during the process of the remix? TK: No technical issues. Like I said, Kevin is a technical wizard! Well I actually said 'technical genius' but who gives a toss!?
Yes, I played synths on Rest Your Head off of The Haunted Man. That was the first official collaboration. We've messed around in the past with beats and I've given her my opinions and shared ideas on her songs in the past but non official of course. B: Who were your favorite artists/musicians/bands when you were in high school? TK: Wow, so many to mention. As I said I was big in to Hip Hop in my teenage years, but growing up as a kid Tash would
always be playing me Nirvana, Bjork, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush, The Doors and loads of other artists that I really loved. My Mum got me into Fleetwood Mac who I love to this day, Luther Vandross, 80s Madonna and and my other wonderful sister Suraya would listen to all sorts. in fact we would always buy the latest NOW album. the best was NOW 32! I loved the whole Brit Pop era. Bands such as Oasis, The Verve and Blur all had a massive affect on me growing up. Cliche as it sounds, The Beatles are probably my favourite band. B: Has your preference/taste in music changed over the years? TK: Ye it has. I think that goes for a lot of people. Ive always been into such a variety of music anyway. im always chopping and
changing and I take pleasure in discovering old classics from 60s, 70s, 80s. I've fallen out of love for Hip Hop as its currently in a dyer state, and most of it just sounds like watered down crap. I listen more to experimental bands such as Alt-j, Everything Everything, M83, and just got into Tame Impala, not bad at all! B: Do you share the same musical taste as your sibling, Natasha? Are the two of you into the same musical artists? TK: We have very similar tastes. We grew up on the same music and went through the same struggles and life experiences, so id say
its only normal to be attracted to the similar emotional elements in certain music. We don't agree on absolutely everything but 8 times out of 10 we'll send each other songs or recommend albums and will really love it. B: Bat for Lashes (Natasha) has said that she finds inspiration in things such as nature, relationships and films.
Do you find inspiration in similar ways? TK: Again similar to what i said in the above question. We are very similar in many ways, hence why we have chosen the same creative path in our lives. I think most creatives/artists would find inspiration from everyday life, whether it be a relationship, a film, nature, or even a pair of mouldy old socks! I certainly do...especially the latter! B: Are we going to see more Bat for Lashes remixes from Other Nature in the future?
TK: I hope so! B: Does Other Nature plan to collaborate with artists other than Bat for Lashes?
TK: We also hope so! Watch this space... Other Nature on Facebook - Other Nature on Twitter You can listen the remix here on NME.com: Track Exclusive - Bat For Lashes, 'A Wall' (Other Nature Remix) and
